Faenz is a simple, open-source, lightweight, and privacy-friendly web analytics tool designed specifically for small businesses and side projects. It is GDPR compliant and cookie-free, making it a great option for those looking for a privacy-conscious analytics solution. Faenz can be hosted on Render or your personal server using Docker images with no extra dependencies. It offers a public demo where users can add their own domains and track the visits they receive.

  • GDPR Compliant: Faenz ensures compliance with GDPR regulations by only collecting essential information such as referrer, URL, device width, and user IP address (which is encrypted and mixed with a random salt).
  • Cookie-free: Unlike many other analytics tools, Faenz does not rely on cookies for tracking user activity, enhancing privacy.
  • Hostable on Render or Personal Server: Faenz can be easily hosted on Render or any personal server using Docker images, making it accessible and flexible for different hosting environments.
  • Real-time Statistics: Faenz provides users with real-time statistics, allowing them to track visits and monitor their website's performance in real-time.

To install Faenz and start using it for web analytics, follow these steps:

  1. Host the Faenz instance on your preferred hosting platform, such as Render or your personal server.

  2. Sign in to the Faenz dashboard and add a new domain by entering its domain and favicon URLs.

  3. Load the Faenz JavaScript file into the pages of your website. This JavaScript code will send an HTTP request when the page is loaded, enabling Faenz to collect the necessary information about the visit.

  4. If you are hosting Faenz on a webserver available at "https://myfaenz.com" and want to collect analytics data for "https://mywebsite.com", add the following code to your website pages:

    <script src="https://myfaenz.com/faenz.js" async></script>
  5. That's all! You can now go to your Faenz dashboard and enjoy real-time statistics.

Alternatively, you can also use Faenz for server-side analytics by sending a POST HTTP request directly from your server to Faenz. This ensures that visits are collected even if they are blocked by ad-blockers or if users have disabled JavaScript.
