A Zola theme forked from after-dark for my personal blog


The After Midnight theme is a customizable and easy-to-install theme for Hugo websites. It is based on the After Dark template and offers a clean and modern design. This theme requires some configuration and enables features such as a top menu, custom titles, and individual author settings.


  • Top menu: The theme allows users to set a field in the extra section with a key of after_dark_menu to create a customizable top menu.

  • Title customization: The site title can be set on a per-page basis or in the config file. This allows users to display a different title on the homepage compared to the <title> element.

  • Author settings: The theme supports individual author settings, which can be defined on a per-page basis or in the config file.


  1. Download the After Midnight theme and place it in your themes directory.

  2. Enable the theme in your config.toml file.

  3. Paginate your index section (content/ to ensure the theme works correctly. Move your posts directly under the content folder.

  4. Enable the tags and categories taxonomies in your config.toml file. If you want to paginate taxonomies pages, you will need to overwrite the templates as the default setting only works for non-paginated taxonomies.

Zola comes as a single executable with Sass compilation, syntax highlighting, table of contents and many other features that traditionally require setting up a dev environment or adding some JavaScript libraries to your site.


Blog websites feature posts written by one or more authors, organized by categories and tags, with a section for comments and archives sorted by date or topic. Additional features may include search bar, social media sharing, subscription or RSS feed, about and contact pages, and visual content.
