Overview

Rails kodeflash is a rapid Rails application template that saves time when creating a new Rails application. It utilizes Tailwind CSS, a utility-first CSS framework for rapid UI development. This template also includes support for Webpack and comes bundled with webpacker support. It is heavily inspired by the Jumpstart template from Chris Oliver.

Installation

To install the Rails kodeflash template, you will need the following:

  • Ruby 2.5 or higher with Rails 6.0.3.4
  • Node.js 12.19.0
  • Redis for ActionCable support
  • bundler gem (install with gem install bundler)
  • rails gem (install with gem install rails)
  • Yarn (install with npm install yarn or download from yarnpkg.com)

To create a new Rails application using the template:

  1. Download the kodeflash Rails template and unzip the downloaded file.
  2. Open a terminal and navigate to the unzipped kodeflash-Rails-template directory.
  3. Initialize your new app by running $ rails new #{app_name}
  4. CD into your new app's directory using cd #{app_name}
  5. Start the Rails server with $ rails server or $ rails s
  6. Open your web browser and access the application at 127.0.0.1:3000 or localhost:3000

Please note that if the app fails due to a Segmentation fault, try running $ rails server again. If the issue persists, try adding DISABLE_SPRING=1 before running rails new. This is to avoid confusion with the Spring application runner.
